Duval County Democrats Tap Davis To Run For Vacated State House Seat

News4Jax

Democrat Tracie Davis is getting another shot at State House District 13.

Davis was chosen by the Duval County Democratic Party Executive Committee Tuesday night to run in place of incumbent Democratic Representative Reggie Fullwood.

Fullwood was forced out of the race last week after pleading guilty to misuse of campaign funds.

District 9 State Senator Audrey Gibson nominated Davis as Fullwood’s replacement.

“What has to happen now,” Gibson said, “is like a campaign on steroids — making sure that people know that Tracie is the nominee.”

Davis narrowly lost to Fullwood in a six-way primary race in August. Following Tuesday night’s unanimous vote by the executive committee, Davis said her campaign is up to the challenge.

“We’re going to pick up where we left off. Yeah,” she said. “We’re going to start raising money, we’re going to strategize about our ground game and we’re going to start getting our message out.”

And, she added “We’re going to want our Democratic voters to vote the Democratic ticket.”

Davis said she plans to go to Tallahassee Wednesday to file her paperwork with the state elections office.

Duval Elections Supervisor Mike Hogan has said that Fullwood’s name will stay on the ballot but that there will likely be signs at the polls explaining that voting for Fullwood is the same as voting for Davis.
