6/10/19: Open Primaries; North Florida TPO; Author Andrew Nagorski; Cole Pepper

Bill Bortzfield/WJCT News

Florida has more than 3.5 million no party affiliated voters, or NPAs, which make up some 27 percent of the electorate.

But Florida has a closed primary system. That means that if you are an independent or NPA voter, you don’t have a voice in primary elections. Activists are hoping to change that leading up to next year’s presidential election. Steve Hough, director of Florida Fair and Open Primaries, Inc., joined us for a closer look.

North Florida TPO

The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is updating its regional long-range transportation plan and wants to hear from you. Members of the public can join their telephone town hall this week. Jeff Sheffield, the organization’s executive director, joined us to explain how.
