9/12/19: Trauma & The Opioid Crisis; See The Girl; Save Guana Now; Pop-Up Country Station

DAYLINA MILLER / WUSF PUBLIC MEDIA

Purdue Pharma and its owners, members of the Sackler family, have tentatively reached the first comprehensive settlement with thousands of different parties, for the devastation caused by the opioid epidemic.  Under the tentative deal, the Sackler family would pay $3 billion in cash over seven years.

Meanwhile, some specialists say that in order to fully understand the opiate epidemic, we need to also understand trauma, and how it can drive addiction. Lynne Harris, a Licensed Professional Counselor with Coastal Community Behavioral Health, joined us for a closer look.

Lawanda Ravoira and Vicky Basra with the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center; and Shay Bilchik, Founder of Georgetown University's Center for Juvenile Justice Reform, joined us with more information on a number of the organization's upcoming initiatives.
