Annual Scottish Games And Festival Returns to Clay County

Highland dancing, athletic feats, and bagpipe bands—it’s all part of the Northeast Florida Scottish Games & Festival, which returns to the Clay County Fairgrounds in Green Cove Springs on Saturday."This is a celebration of the mystery and history of Scotland," said Audie Gibson, president of the Scottish Games, which will celebrate 19 years in Northeast Florida this weekend.

Events planned include a Tartan Parade, bag piping and drumming competitions, and Highland dancing.

There will also be sheep dog trials, where border collies demonstrate how shepherds and dogs work together to herd sheep, along with a Highland breed dog and cat display and Highland Livestock, which includes Clydesdale horses and Shetland ponies.

And of course, the Scottish Games feature games, with uniquely Scottish athletic action, where participants engage in sports including tossing of the stone, the caber toss and weight for height.

You may or may not be enticed by legendary Scottish fare such as Haggis, Scotch eggs, meat pies, Scottish Pastries and other specialties.

Internationally-famous Celtic rock bands Albannach, Clan Na Gael (the original members of Seven Nations) and Rathkeltair are scheduled to perform.

Tickets and more information are available online at NEFLGames.com.
