Business Brief: Sweet Pete's Hopes To Re-Open On Nov. 15 With New MLG Restaurant

The Jacksonville Daily Record
Sweet Pete's and the former Candy Apple Cafe closed in August for renovations.

Sweet Pete's candy shop and the new MLG restaurant could open in two weeks at the historic 400 N. Hogan St. building Downtown.

“We're crossing our fingers for Nov. 15,” said co-owner and co-founder Allison Behringer told our Jacksonville Daily Record news partneron Wednesday.

She said the date has changed a few times, but the current target “is looking good.”

Sweet Pete's and the former Candy Apple Cafe closed Aug. 10 for renovations.

Celebrity entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis, an investor in Sweet Pete's, intends to open his MLG – Marcus Lemonis Grill – in the restaurant space.

Candy Apple Cafe opted not to reopen.

Lemonis and chef Roderick Smith announced through social media they would bring the MLG concept to Jacksonville. Lemonis launched the American-style restaurant in Chicago.

Sweet Pete's, founded by Allison and Peter Behringer, opened in 2010. It started in a small house in Springfield and moved to the former private Seminole Club near City Hall in 2014 after Lemonis of the reality television show “The Profit” decided to become a partner.

He invested in the company and the building, which had been vacant.
