The Duval County public school district has received approval from the Florida Department of Education for a modified reopening plan.
The revised plan brings students back on campus five days a week in a phased approach, beginning with sixth grade students on Monday, Sept. 14.
“We’ve had a manageable experience with COVID-19 under the hybrid attendance pattern,” Superintendent Diana Greene said in a news release. “A measured, phased return to having all students on campus Monday through Friday will be extremely beneficial in bridging to larger attendance in school facilities.”
Under the former plan, all students choosing the brick and mortar attendance were set to return to campus on Sept. 14.
Now, following the return of sixth grade students next week, seventh and eighth grade students will return on Monday, Sept. 21. High school students will return to full-week, on-campus attendance on Monday, Sept. 28, according to the district.
The district said the change will have no impact on students who chose to attend school virtually either on Duval HomeRoom or the Duval Virtual Instruction Academy.
Return to Five-Days on Campus: Key Dates
- Sept. 14 – Grade six students return to campus Monday through Friday (all other secondary students remain on hybrid).
- Sept. 21 – Grade seven and eight students return to campus Monday through Friday (all high school students remain on hybrid).
- Sept. 28 – High School students return to campus Monday through Friday.
