Improvements are being planned for County Road 220 in Clay County and the Florida Department of Transportion wants to hear people’s thoughts.

CR 220 is a major thoroughfare that runs from Middleburg to Fleming Island.

A public hearing is set for Monday evening, June 17, to discuss plans for the section between Henley and Knight Boxx roads.

FDOT spokeswoman Sara Pleasants said the problem is congestion. “Clay County is growing so quickly and right now it’s just a two lane road. So the project would widen County Road 220 to a four lane divided roadway and add sidewalks and bike lanes. And it would also widen the bride over Little Black Creek.”

Monday’s public hearing will be at the Highpoint Community Church on Knight Boxx Road in Orange Park.

FDOT staff will be on hand from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to explain the proposal and answer questions.

A formal presentation and a public comment period will immediately follow.
