Tailgaters will return to Florida State home football games this fall, but they’ll have to take pandemic precautions.

The Florida State Athletics Department and Seminole Boosters say tailgating can be an important part of the game day experience. So they teamed up to create a set of guidelines, allowing booster donors to tailgate while promoting a safe environment.

FSU revelers will be limited to individual tailgates at their own parking spaces. Attendees are asked to maintain six feet of social distancing between tailgate areas.

Fans are also encouraged to wear face masks when walking through parking lots and while socializing.

“We ask that our donors take responsibility for adhering to the tailgating guidelines and make good decisions for the safety of our community so that we can continue to move forward with a safe football season,” said FSU Director of Athletics David Coburn. “If we as a Seminole family cannot create a tailgating environment that protects the health and safety of each other, it may be necessary to revisit this approach.”

FSU plans to limit stadium capacity to 25% or less. Current season ticket holders will be offered options based on the limited seating.

FSU tailgating guidelines:

  • All parking lots will open three hours before kickoff this season.
  • Patrons will be limited to individual tailgates at their own spaces.
  • All attendees are asked to maintain the six-foot social distancing standard between individuals outside of family/friends as well as between tailgate areas.
  • All patrons are encouraged to wear face masks when traveling through parking lots as well as while socializing.

Seminole Booster members who qualify for parking will receive their print-at-home passes the week of the season-opener against Georgia Tech. General admission parking will be issued to donors who qualify, with restrictions.
