It isn’t a million-dollar prize, but the local health department in Duval County is offering its own incentive for people to get COVID vaccines.
Beginning next Friday, June 25, the Duval County Department of Health will offer $10 vouchers that can be used at many local grocery stores, when people walk in for a COVID shot.
The move comes as governors and health departments nationwide offer incentives like free college scholarships, entrance into million-dollar lotteries, or, in West Virginia, hunting rifles. Florida has not offered any state-wide incentives.
One of the Duval vaccine sites is on the Northside; the other is near the corner of Beach and University. The sites will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Weekend pop-up clinics are available on alternating weekends, with details on the Department of Health website.
As of June 10th, the Department of Health said Duval County had seen 100,193 cases of COVID-19, and the current vaccination rate stands at 45%.
