Homicide Statistics; Divorce; Jacksonville Classical Academy

Jan 13, 2020

On this episode of First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross, we took a look at Jacksonville’s homicide rate.

Twenty-nineteen was Jacksonville’s deadliest year in decades. The city saw 158 homicides last year, which is the highest count since The Florida Times- Union began keeping track in 2006. Andrew Pantazi, with the Times-Union, joined us for a closer look at the homicide statistics.

January is the biggest month of the year for divorce filings as people decide to start their New Year with a fresh start. Americans over 65 are seeing an even higher divorce rate, a phenomenon called “gray divorce” that can leave women in a scary financial situation. Jeannette Bajalia, author and founder of Woman’s Worth, joined us to talk about how women can protect themselves.
