JTA To Overhaul Mass Transit System

Jacksonville Transportation Authority

In the biggest overhaul since the 1980's, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority is revamping its mass transit system.

JTA has just three months to rework everything from bus stops and driver uniforms to scheduled routes and customer service.

30 bus routes will be redesigned to make them faster and better suited for the passengers they serve. Changes include more frequent service in areas of town that need it, routes that will operate at specific intervals of 15, 30 and 60 minutes, later operating hours and more.

The revamp was approved at JTA board meeting Thursday.

Florida Times-Union reporter Dan Scanlan, who has been covering the change, joined Melissa Ross to discuss the aspects of JTA's plan.
