In this March 16, 2020, file photo, Neal Browning receives a shot in the first-stage safety study of a potential vaccine for COVID-19 at the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute in Seattle.

The number of people eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is expanding this week, as are the number of vaccination sites in our area.

Chad Neilsen, Director of Accreditation and Infection Prevention at UF Health Jacksonville joined us with more information.

Shopability

The Connectable movement launched a new initiative this week called Shopability, which is designed to shine a light on local businesses that employ individuals with Autism, Down syndrome and other intellectual and developmental differences (IDDs). They even have an interactive map which identifies IDD friendly businesses.

Sarah Troup, Director of Connectable Jax spoke to us about it and other ways Jacksonville is making IDD inclusion front and center.

COVID-19 Relief Bill

Republicans in the U.S. Senate are expected to raise objections to President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief package. They argue it will increase the deficit and that the country can’t afford the price tag.  However, there are supporters of an economic theory called the modern monetary theory, who disagree. Daniel Cronrath of FSCJ joined us to explain.

Jacksonville-based muralist Jason Tetlak has finished painting a new mural on the rooftop of the River Park Place office building at 751 Oak Street in Riverside. The intent is to present the piece, which depicts dynamic scenes of northeast Florida wildlife and the St. Johns River ecosystem, as a welcome sign for tourists. He spoke to us about his work.
