Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Ocean Conservancy Report, Miami Fashion Week

May 30, 2019

We continue our conversation about the Coconut Grove Playhouse. The old theatre has been unused since 2006 and has become a topic of political interest in South Florida. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez wants to restore only the front of the theater and demolish the rest, building a modern new theater in its place. City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez does not agree. Suarez wants to restore the entire playhouse. Gimenez's proposal was approved in a vote, but Suarez has vetoed the plan. Suarez joined the program on Wednesday and Mayor Gimenez joined on Thursday to respond to Suarez’s comments and talk about his plans to restore the historic Coconut Grove site.

The report “Currents and Crossroads: A Vision for Florida’s Ocean and Coasts,” by the Ocean Conservancy, a non-profit organization that advocates for the protection of the marine life, examines the critical challenges facing Florida's coastlines. J.P. Brooker, senior manager at the Ocean Conservancy joined Sundial to discuss the report’s key findings.

Starting this weekend, the world of fashion will descend on South Florida for the Miami Fashion Week Summit. Fashion experts, designers and many celebrities will gather together to discuss the latest trends in the industry. Asanyah Davidson, chairperson of the Miami Fashion Institute at Miami Dade College, joined Sundial to talk about how the college is driving an eco-friendly fashion movement.
