There were 232 traffic-related deaths and over 32,000 traffic accidents in Duval, Clay Nassau and St. Johns County in 2017.
One way the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) hopes to lower those numbers is through information gathered from a new survey.
The North Florida Traffic Survey asks drivers questions about what the biggest safety issues are on area roadways with questions like: “What types of strategies are needed to improve traffic safety?”
The survey will help the organization decide how to invest in future safety projects.
“We have limited funds to make various kinds of improvements. If we can get a priority list then that helps in the process, so asking folks to tell us is very very helpful,” said North Florida TPO Spokesperson Marci Larson.
Larson said the results from the survey will help update a strategic safety plan that was originally done in 2012.
The agency hopes that by having community input the plan will have a clearer focus that benefits Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.
Participants who take the survey and enter their contact information are eligible to win one of three $100 Visa gift cards.
The survey will close on Friday, June 28. The North Florida TPO expects to have the results of the survey available in late July.
