If you’ve been on social media over the past few days, you’ve seen the Bernie Sanders mittens meme.

The image of the Vermont senator in his folding chair at the presidential inauguration has become one of the most pervasive internet memes in recent memory.

Bobby Kelley, owner of Springfield’s Bobby K. Boutique in Jacksonville, is among the entrepreneurs jumping on the Bernie bandwagon to make a buck.

“We came up with some fun little things for the website to see what would happen. And I was like watching the traffic and it was going from like normal web traffic to like hundreds of people at a time, to a thousand people at a time, and I was like, ‘Ok, this is going to be a journey for me for the next few days,’” he said.

Kelley’s Bernie prayer candles are the number one seller, followed by stickers and magnets.

He’s also supplying other stores with his merchandise.

The full interview with Kelley is on Monday’s First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross, which will also encore at 8 p.m. on WJCT News 89.9.
