That organization's Executive Director Antoine Wright said the first of what should be several homes will soon be under construction.

"The immediate vision is raising $65,000 by September when we're getting ready to build. We're recruiting other veterans' organizations, whether it's Wounded Warriors or any of the others to come out and participate."

Tallahassee Mayor Pro Tem Curtis Richardson said the City is ready to help.

"We'll be looking at donating land that the City owns to build these homes on and whatever financial resources we can make available to this effort as well."

Veterans Advocate Colonel Washington Sanchez added Veterans Build will help vets on many levels.

"That will allow our veterans to live in a piece of property that they own that will probably cost them half of what they're paying in rent," he explained.

Local vets will also take part in the housing construction, helping them gain new skills.
