After three Jacksonville City Council committees this week voted against recommending to remove Springfield Park’s Confederate monument to the Women of the Southland, activists plan to take their campaign to the business community.
The full Council vote is next week and requires a supermajority to pass. Ten members voted against spending $1.3 million to remove the monument in committees, but they could change their mind before Tuesday.

- Jacksonville Dance Theatre and the Florida Ballet's professional company share the stage in the Jacksonville Dance Experience this Saturday at the historic Florida Theatre.
- Writer Bill Delaney, co-owner of The Jaxson and Edible Northeast Florida Magazine, spent years researching Jacksonville’s lesser known stories. His new book, Secret Jacksonville: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure is dedicated to the forgotten, mysterious and just plain interesting spots across Jacksonville and the First Coast. He’s celebrating the release with a number of events, including readings, book signings and walking tours.
- Following a hiatus due to the pandemic, Israeli theatre and film star Yehezkel Lazarov returns to the stage as Tevye in the Fiddler on the Roof, running at Jacksonville's Times-Union Center through Sunday.
- The Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair kicks off tomorrow Downtown at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. This year’s theme is Get Back to the Fun. Advance ticket sales, with half-price admission and discounted mechanical ride armbands, end tonight at midnight.
- The Wellness Hub, a new spa on Jacksonville's Southside, is hosting free mini-acupuncture treatments at its grand opening this Saturday. Attendees can also enjoy live handpan music, free food, chair massage, and local pop-up shops.
- The First Coast YMCA needs donations of new socks and blankets to help those in need this Thanksgiving.
