Some of the state’s most prominent politicians have been dropping by Jacksonville this week.
Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke at a local school yesterday to talk about his education budget proposals, and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, who is challenging DeSantis, was also in town, to tout the recently passed federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Central Florida Democratic Congresswoman Val Demings is in Jacksonville to discuss her run to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio.

Yoga studio under fire
Local business owner Ashley Hanna says she did not intend to defy DeSantis when she offered vaccine-only classes at her yoga studio. Hanna wanted to accommodate clients who were concerned about the delta variant of COVID-19, so she expanded her weekly schedule to include two classes for vaccinated clients only.
The decision but Hanna on a list of more than 100 businesses and local governments reported to the state for violating a Florida law prohibiting vaccine mandates championed by DeSantis.

Vietnam homecoming

400th anniversary of the first Thanksgiving
William Cheshire is a local physician with an interesting side job. He serves as the governor of the Richard Warren Colony of Mayflower Descendants. The group, chartered in 1957, serves Florida’s First Coast. Cheshire says modern folks still have a lot to learn from the Mayflower’s story.
