Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis speaks to supporters and members of the media before a bill signing Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, in Brandon. DeSantis signed a bill that protects employees and their families from coronavirus vaccine and mask mandates.

Florida may soon appropriate $1 million for the governor’s office to develop a proposal to essentially secede from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the federal agency charged with ensuring safe and healthful working conditions for America’s workers.

Specifically, the study would look into the possibility of adopting an OSHA “State Plan.”

The idea came out of last week’s special legislative session where several bills were passed defying the Biden administration on vaccine mandates for large companies.

Guest: Jordan Barab, deputy assistant director of OSHA from 2009 to 2017.

ECMO

For the sickest COVID-19 patients, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation is a vital technology that keeps them alive when nothing else works.

ECMO treats severe heart and lung failure that does not respond to usual medical treatments. It essentially takes over the heart and lung functions for seriously ill patients while increasing oxygen delivery throughout the body and facilitating carbon dioxide removal.

Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville has a new ECMO machine to help COVID patients recover.
