Today’s Media Roundtable discussed some of the top stories in the First Coast, including:

  • Shad Khan fired Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer early Thursday morning following a tumultuous 2021 season culminating in allegations of abuse from former kicker Josh Lambo.
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis visited Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Yulee campus on Thursday to promote the school’s expansion of the commercial driver certification program. DeSantis says the program will help end the supply chain shortage.
  • Also, this week, DeSantis announced the Stop the Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees (W.O.K.E) Act. He plans to push the bill during the next legislative session. Critical points in the act include altering corporate diversity training and ensuring Critical Race Theory cannot be taught in Florida Schools.
  • A local gas six-cent tax goes into effect starting in January.
  • Threats are circulating on TikTok, claiming that on Dec. 17, U.S. schools could face mass shootings and bombings. Law enforcement officials nationwide say the threats are not credible, but many schools increased police presence on campus.
