Drivers line up for COVID-19 tests on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, in North Miami.

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases driven by the highly contagious omicron variant, Florida’s Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, on Monday said the state Department of Health would issue guidance that would, in his words, “unwind the testing psychology” of the federal government.

Those comments come after President Joe Biden’s administration last month announced a plan to distribute 500 million at-home coronavirus tests to Americans. These tests have been difficult for many on the First Coast to find.
