Today’s Media Roundtable discussed some of the top stories in the First Coast, including:
- Mayor Lenny Curry posted a Twitter video titled “We Were Right,” celebrating his leadership during the pandemic and expressing his continued frustrations with other leaders criticizing his choice to “reopen the city.” The video was met with mixed opinions as the city opened a new antibody site and COVID cases in schools reached record numbers.
- Curbside recycling services are still suspended in Jacksonville. Officials point to a national shortage of waste collection workers as their reason for suspending their service; however, most local governments, including Atlantic and Jacksonville Beaches, have been able to keep the service while navigating the labor shortage.
- JEA electric bills soared to their highest prices since 2011 as the utility company raised them again this month. They say prices should level out in March.
- The Downtown Investment Authority Review Committee heard developer suggestions for The Ford on Bay property on Jan. 5. The proposals included hotels, apartments, restaurants and retail space.
- Baymeadows property owners could be charged to fix up privately owned roads. The Jacksonville City Council will vote on the proposal, which faces backlash from residents.
