Today’s Media Roundtable discussed some of the top stories in the First Coast, including:
- Duval County Sheriff Mike Williams is stepping down after The Tributary first reported Williams moved to Nassau County more than a year ago and was violating the city charter’s residency requirement. Williams says he will leave office on June 10.
- Former sheriff and now U.S. Representative John Rutherford is under the cloud of an ethics investigation. Rutherford will undergo an investigation by the House Committee on Ethics over multiple late disclosures of stock transactions, a matter that Rutherford had said he believed he already put behind him by paying fines.
- Duval County Public Schools is planning to hire a New York security firm to enhance school safety in response to mass shootings.
- An appeals court this week said a circuit judge issued a “patently unlawful” temporary injunction against a congressional redistricting plan pushed through the Legislature by Gov. Ron DeSantis, giving another sign that the controversial plan likely will be used in this year’s elections.
- This week marked the beginning of hurricane season, and more than 40% of Floridians say high gas prices and other factors would keep them from evacuating if a storm were bearing down.
