Duval County Public Schools has reversed its restroom policy. Now, school restrooms and lockers must be separated by sex assigned at birth. And, the district no longer discourages ‘outing’ students in its new LGBTQ+ support guide. We discussed all this — and more — with Claire Heddles of Jacksonville Today.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

The evening of April 17-18 is Yom HaShoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day. While many international observances fall on Jan. 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945, Yom HaShoah is Israel's official day of commemoration and serves as a Jewish holiday.

Still today, our country (including Jacksonville) witnesses hundreds of attacks on the Jewish community every year. That’s why The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services, a Jacksonville nonprofit, is expanding its programs to address the rise in antisemitism in our community and other hateful acts toward minority groups. For more, we spoke with JFCS CEO Colleen Rodriguez.

Drug Take Back Day

This Saturday, local partners will host DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at five locations around Jacksonville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications. No identifying information will be asked of any person dropping off substances.

TJ Ward is the North Florida Director of Advocacy with Project Opioid at the JAX Chamber and joins us with details.
