There are certain spots around the world where people live longer, stay healthier and have stronger communities known as Blue Zones.

And, there’s a new effort right on the First Coast to make Jacksonville a healthier place, and the idea is to do it by emulating what works. It's called the Blue Zones Project.

Nicole Hamm, executive director, joined us with details.

Stopping Asian hate

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Asian Americans have been the target of a huge spike in racially motivated incidents of hate crimes and harassment, as some people wrongly link them to the spread of the virus. So much so, in fact, that the Stop Asian Hate campaign on social media has formed in response to this worrisome trend.

It turns out Melissa witnessed one such incident herself last week, just as May kicks off Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

For more on the issue, we welcomed Eun Cho, CEO of Haymaker Coffee Company.

Book club

It’s a new month, and that means we’ve got a new book to recommend as part of our long-running book club here on the show.

Our facilitator, Stacey Goldring, joined us to discuss this month’s pick, "Shakespeare and Company" by Sylvia Beach.

Taverna Oceana

Taverna Oceana is a new raw bar and seafood-focused restaurant concept adjacent to Taverna in San Marco Square. It opens today!

Chef and co-owner Sam Efron and co-owner Kiley Wynne Efron joined us with a preview.
