Friday Media Roundtable; JAXUSL

Miller Electric Center.
Miller Electric Center.

Our Friday Media Roundtable highlighted the week's most important issues — from city finances to African American history.

Joining us were Mike Mendenhall of the Jacksonville Daily Record, Ben Becker of Action News Jax, regular WJCT contributor and former City Council President Jack Webb and former City CouncilWoman Randy DeFoor.

Among the topics:

  • Mayor Donna Deegan presented her budget to City Council on Monday. We discussed what the budget looks like.
  • Vice President Kamala Harris is making her way to Jacksonville to discuss the state’s new academic standards for African American history. According to the White House, Harris will speak about “the fight to protect fundamental freedom, specifically, the freedom to learn and teach America’s full and true story.”
  • Sheriff T.K. Waters held his first town hall meeting Wednesday to discuss revamped patrol zones and a new security camera program, among other issues.
  • The Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled their new practice facility. The team and the city are preparing for the looming talks about what comes next for The Bank.

JAXUSL

JAXUSL is proposing a 15-field soccer complex in St Johns County as it seeks to bring a professional United Soccer League franchise to Northeast Florida.

Tony Allegretti of JAXUSL told us more about what the complex would look like.
