Last week, we discussed the controversy surrounding the state’s new academic standards for Black history.
But, with school starting back up again in some First Coast districts in just over two weeks — not to mention a visit from Vice President Kamala Harris to denounce the standards — we felt it was important to continue the conversation around them.
Joining us today were former Duval School Board Member and high school teacher Elizabeth Andersen, who is currently involved with Public School Defenders; Edward Waters student Winston Seabrooks, who spoke at the vice president’s event on Friday; current School Board member Darryl Willie; and state Rep. Angie Nixon.

Southern Storytellers: First Coast Edition
Tonight, WJCT Public Media will host an evening celebrating the connection between artists and storytellers in the South from 6 to 8 p.m.
It will include a panel discussion, performances by local artists and clips from the coming PBS series "Southern Storytellers" airing on Jax PBS.
One of the panelists is our own Stacey Bennett, of "Folk is People." She joined us with a preview.
