It’s everyone’s favorite day of the week, and here on First Coast Connect it’s ours too. Today, we discuss the biggest headlines in the news from the week with some knowledgeable minds in local journalism.
Among the topics discussed:
- The federal corruption case against JEA executives Aaron Zahn and Ryan Wannemacher is scheduled for trial in a few weeks. New testimony suggested that former Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry supported a $40 million payout to Zahn if the utility had been sold. Curry denied it.
- Monday, thick smoke filled the sky as the new Rise Doro apartment building burned. The building, nearly finished with residents ready to move in, burned for more than 24 hours. Rise Doro was meant to be a gateway and a showcase for the Downtown area.
- The environment for transgender individuals in the Sunshine State is becoming more hostile. Last Friday, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles released a memo mandating that the gender indicated on a driver’s license must align with a person’s sex assigned at birth.
