A years-long investigation by the Center of Public Integrity tracked down the living descendants of formerly enslaved people notoriously promised “40 Acres and a mule” by U.S. government officials. The story, "40 Acres and a Lie," was published last week in Mother Jones and told in a three-part series by the podcast Reveal.
We speak to April Simpson, racial equity reporter at the Center for Public Integrity, who worked on the story. We also welcome Jacksonville author and Gullah Geechee historian Greg Estevez, a descendant of an enslaved man who was given land on Edisto Island, South Carolina, at the end of the Civil War, only to have it repossessed when Reconstruction ended.
Then, we talk to former Atlantic Beach mayor and retired FBI agent Ellen Glasser about her star turn in the new Netflix documentary How to Rob a Bank.
And, we discuss the latest automotive headlines with our resident gearhead, WJCT reporter Dan Scanlan.
