The 'struggle for the soul of labor'

On Tuesday's show, author and labor journalist Hamilton Nolan discussed his new book “The Hammer: Power, Inequality, and the Struggle for the Soul of Labor.” Nolan, a Florida native and former Gawker reporter, makes the case that the cure to economic inequality is union solidarity. Nolan reports on labor issues for The Guardian and In These Times, has written for The New York Times and publishes the “How Things Work” Substack.

Then, the season’s first major tropical storm, Hurricane Beryl, is also the earliest Category 5 storm in history. First Coast News Chief Meteorologist Tim Deegan joined us for a look at the havoc wrought by the storm so far, and a look ahead at what’s predicted to be an above-normal hurricane season.

Plus, in the “summer”-themed finale of Florida Theatre’s “Untold Stories” series, ordinary people share extraordinary, real-life tales.

Guests:

  • Barbara Colaciello, artistic director and host of “Untold Stories”
  • Thony Aiuppy, storyteller and visual artist
