We talk to the man behind the effort to revitalize 24 bungalows and an old gas station in the Jacksonville neighborhood once known as West Lewisville (now Mixon Town). The 1920s development of 800-square-foot homes had been neglected, but some homes are still occupied. We talk to a local Navy veteran who is working to restore and update the 100-year-old structures, one at a time, with hopes of creating a new neighborhood of modestly priced rental homes.
Guest:
- Spencer Fletcher, former Navy pilot and owner of Oasis Paint Co.
Then, our primary election coverage continues with Duval County School Board District 7 candidate Sarah Mannion, who is running for the seat currently held by former School Board Chair Lori Hershey. Hershey’s term expires Nov. 19. District 7 is one of Duval’s most suburban school districts with just 10 schools in the Mandarin and Baymeadows area. (Mannion’s challenger, Melody Ann Bolduc, was scheduled to appear on First Coast Connect on July 29 but canceled and has not rescheduled.)
Plus, appreciating the beauty of street art. We talk with a local author and artist about her love for Banksy and graffiti and how this ephemeral art form has touched all parts of the world.
