Each Friday, our expert roundtable offers context for and commentary on the week’s biggest news. Among our topics:

  • Downtown density is a moving target with several major tenants in flux.
  • Jacksonville sees a dangerous week on the roads after two police officers are shot at in 10 hours, and a third fires into a moving truck on i-95
  • Local DOGE efforts get a public hearing, and draw public protest
  • And the St. Johns County Airport Authority braces for a criminal investigation into board member conduct

Guests:

  • David Bauerlein, metro reporter at The Florida Times-Union
  • Randy DeFoor, attorney and former Jacksonville City Council member
  • Anthony Austin, evening anchor at First Coast News
  • Dan Scanlan, reporter at WJCT News 89.9

Then, we preview a broadcast connecting local audiences with London’s National Theatre. As part of the National Theatre Live series, WJCT Public Media screens the stage play The Motive and the Cue. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendez (American Beauty), the play offers a fictionalized take on the real life 1964 Broadway production of Hamlet, which was directed by John Gielgud (played by Mark Gatiss) and starred Richard Burton (played by Johnny Flynn), newly married to Elizabeth Taylor (played by Tuppence Middleton). The recording of the performance offers First Coast residents a West End theatre experience from the comfort of WJCT Studios.

Guest: Circe LeNoble, WJCT grants and education outreach manager
