Should news outlets be required to remove stories about alleged crimes if the charges are later dropped? It’s a question that prompted a state bill that would make it easier to file defamation cases against news outlets. We talk to a local First Amendment lawyer about the implications of a proposed state crackdown on what the media can publish.

Guest:

  • Jennifer Mansfield, First Amendment and commercial litigation attorney at Holland & Knight.

Then, a three-part investigation looks at how a weak case and a lying witness landed a local man on death row. We talk to the series’ reporter about the challenges of uncovering the truth in decades-old cases and what the story tells us about the use of jailhouse snitches.

Guest:

And, 10 people with five minutes and a story to tell. We preview an upcoming Bab’s Lab story slam with a theme of breaking barriers — and rules.

Guests:

  • Julia Ivanisova, visual artist.
  • Melanye Rodriguez, storyteller and visual artist.
