Funding concerns prompt a last-minute infusion of cash from Republicans (including Elon Musk) into the special election to replace former District 6 congressman (now National Security Adviser) Michael Walz. We discuss how money and DOGE fallout are affecting the surprisingly close contest between Republican Randy Fine and Democrat Josh Weil. Attorney, author and government expert Chris Hand offers insight on that, as well as JEA’s controversial rate hike and how proposed changes to state and federal election laws could affect voters.
And, Conrad Tao, Jacksonville Symphony’s current artist-in-residence, returns to Jacoby Hall on April 4 and 5 for the world premiere of his new work Clang and Shudder. Commissioned by the Jacksonville Symphony, the piece debuts as part of the Rite of Spring concert, led by music director Courtney Lewis. We discuss the goal of the artist-in-residence program as well as the creative process and inspiration behind Clang and Shudder.
Guests:
- Courtney Lewis, music director at the Jacksonville Symphony.
- Conrad Tao, pianist, composer and Jacksonville Symphony artist-in-residence.
Then, Jacksonville-based vintage-country act Patsy’s Daydream takes the stage at the WJCT Soundstage on Saturday as part of the Jacksonville Music Experience’s Soundstage Series. Designed to foster community through music discovery, the series showcases a mix of internationally acclaimed artists and local talent. Led by singer-songwriter Tianna Disalvo, the band — a tribute to the timeless sound of Patsy Cline — earned a spot on JME’s list of the best local songs of 2024 with their debut single. The event also features Los Angeles garage-psych rockers Levitation Room, with support from Florida’s own Ben Katzman’s DeGreaser.
