A reboot of the community-based crime reduction initiative once known as the Jacksonville Journey gives prevention efforts a dedicated seat in City Hall. We talk to two leaders of the Jacksonville Journey Forward, both of whom worked on the successful first version, about how the strategies have evolved and how their work fits into Jacksonville’s overall efforts to not only reduce violent crime, but attack and disrupt its root causes.

And, live music, food trucks and turtle appreciation are on tap at the Second Annual Sea Turtle Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fernandina’s Main Beach. The event celebrates some recent milestones as well, including sea turtle education signs installed at public beach access points, funded by the state’s Sea Turtle specialty license plate, and a van to transport tools for beach cleanups, funded in part by proceeds of the state’s Endless Summer specialty license plate.
