State representatives applaud in the House chamber during the opening session of the 2025 legislative session on March 4, 2025, at the state Capitol in Tallahassee.

Amid one of the most contentious legislative seasons in memory, lawmakers take a one-week break to regroup before tackling the state budget. We talk to two veteran First Coast political analysts about the session's winners, losers and new laws, along with what to expect when the bruising session resumes.

Guests:

  • AG Gancarski, Northeast Florida correspondent at Florida Politics.
  • Obi Umunna, attorney and longtime campaign manager.

Then, from receiving lifesaving training skills to providing support to military families and their community, youth volunteers with the American Red Cross encounter unique learning experiences with lifetime impact. We talk to two local Red Cross coordinators about the opportunities available to high school students looking to get involved.

Guests:

  • Harold Anderson, regional volunteer engagement specialist, American Red Cross of North Florida.
  • Keisha Simms, service to the armed forces regional manager, American Red Cross of North Florida.

And, celebrating at a moment of cultural crisis. We preview the new art exhibit Don’t Say Gay a collaborative portrait gallery described as “a love letter to being queer in Florida.” The show, featuring work by artists Kat Culture and Celeste Burns, opens with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Share Art Gallery.
