On Monday’s show: Okefenokee: a refuge for the world?

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is the largest blackwater swamp in North America and the lifeblood of the St. Marys and Suwanee rivers. The 400-thousand-acre Okefenokee swamp is also an international treasure, according to those seeking its formal designation as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. We talk to the refuge's director about why she believes UNESCO designation would boost the economy of South Georgia, as it helps preserve the one-of-a-kind wilderness.

Guest: Kim Bednarek, executive director, Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

Then, from historic preservation to climate resilience, the challenges facing St. Augustine are a unique Ancient City mix. And the city’s mayor has earned a reputation for facing those challenges with a focus on local control. For the eighth year in a row, the Florida League of Cities has named her a “Hometown Hero” for her advocacy during the legislative season. We ask her about fighting for autonomy at a time of growing state control.

Guest: St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline

Finally, Jacksonville history is reanimating the old Florida Casket Co. factory. The Jacksonville History Center will soon host its third annual History Fair – the first public event at the newly renovated 106-year-old building.

Guest: Alan J. Bliss, CEO, Jacksonville History Center
