Close to the Bone
A Pulitzer Prize-winning author whose book The Devil In The Grove led to the posthumous pardon and official exoneration of the Groveland Four, turned his sights on the story of Leo Schofield in 2018. The resulting podcast Bone Valley helped bring attention to Schofield’s wrongful conviction and supported his release, on parole, more than 36 years after he was convicted of murdering his wife, Michelle. The two federal prosecutors behind the podcast, The Prosecutors, selected the case for a rigorous eight-part examination and, after reviewing the evidence, came to the same conclusion as the original podcast. All four individuals are in Jacksonville to discuss the case and join us ahead of a seminar Wednesday at the State Attorney’s Office.
Guests:
- Gilbert King, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Devil in the Grove, producer and host of the Bone Valley podcast
- Leo Schofield, former inmate wrongfully convicted of his wife’s 1987 murder
- Brett Talley, former federal prosecutor, co-host The Prosecutors
- Alice LaCour, former federal prosecutor, co-host The Prosecutors
