What's Health Got to Do with It?

Stroke care; Mark McEwen

CDC

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, someone in the United States has a strokeevery 40 seconds, but there are ways to both prevent stroke and, if you act quickly, stop one in its tracks.

Acute Stroke care has transformed into a public health success and an industry in its own right with comprehensive stroke centers all over the U.S. There are even stroke ambulances. Yet, not everyone has gotten the message or even knows how to recognize when they are having a stroke. Because of this, we devoted today’s show to the topic.

Guests:

Mark McEwan

Mark McEwen was at the top of his game having hosted CBS Winter Olympic coverage and interviewed U.S. presidents and other VIPs when he suffered a stroke.

Mark wrote about his experience in a candid and moving memoir entitled "Change in the Weather; After the Stroke," in which he traces his recovery after temporarily losing some of his greatest gifts — his talent as an Emmy-winning TV host and public speaker.

Sharing an ultimately triumphant story, McEwen emerges as one of our most dynamic new crusaders for stroke victims and their families. Mark is now the host of "All Things Men" on the Black News channel.

Guest: Mark McEwan, journalist and stroke survivor.
