Newest Jaguar Luke Joeckel Meets Jacksonville

Kevin Meerschaert

The Jacksonville Jaguars' new offensive tackle Luke Joeckel met with members of the local media on Friday, less than one day after becoming the second overall pick in the NFL draft.

Joeckel is a offensive tackle from Texas A&M. He says he's very happy to be a Jaguar. Head Coach Gus Bradley says he'll play right tackle, lining up with left tackle Eugene Monroe.

The two are expected to provide more protection for running back Maurice Jones-Drew, wide receivers Cecil Shorts III and Justin Blackmon, and whoever wins the quarterback position.

GM Dave Caldwell compared Joeckel and Monroe to former Jaguars offensive linemen Tony Boselli and Leon Searcy, who led the team in the late 90's.

Luke Joeckel is joined by his parents and brothers and sisters on stage to pose with his uniform. Jaguars owner Shad Khan flew the family to Jacksonville on Friday on his private jet.

Joeckel says he's honored to be compared to a player like Boselli, and hopes to meet with him soon to talk football and life as a Jaguar.

Kevin Meerschaert has left WJCT for new pursuits. He was the producer of First Coast Connect until October of 2018.
