Super Bowl week is upon us, and so far the big stories have been the offense of the Broncos vs. the defense of the Seahawks, Richard Sherman, and the weather.Cole Pepper joined Melissa Ross for more on the big game and yesterday's Pro Bowl in our weekly sports wrap.
Super Bowl XLVIII
They're playing the Super Bowl in the Meadowlands of New Jersey, just outside of New York.
Right now, they're calling for a high temperature of 37 degrees and a low of 27 degrees with a 30 percent chance of precipitation. The first time it ever rained on the field at a Super Bowl was Peyton Manning's first Super Bowl win. Just saying.
By the way, this is the first time that the Super Bowl will be played outside in a northern city.
If Jacksonville wants to host a Super Bowl again (and we're a long way off from that conversation), we need to be rooting for the folks in New York to have a miserable time with bad weather this week, because if the league finds that some of those northern cities like Washington or Chicago can be potential Super Bowl host sites, then its going to push Jacksonville down the list.
Richard Sherman isn't the only defensive back saying outrageous things. Broncos safety Mike Adams is from Paterson, N.J., which is about 12 miles away from MetLife Stadium. New Jersey’s highways are not known as a safe place to take a late evening stroll, but Adams said that he’d like to walk to Paterson in his helmet and shoulder pads if the Broncos are victorious next Sunday.
I'm going to make my prediction now: and I'm taking the weather forecast into account here. Seattle 27 to Denver 26. Seahawks get their first Super Bowl title in history.
Pro Bowl
They played the Pro Bowl last night in Hawaii. Jaguars LB Paul Posluszny represented Jacksonville.
They did things a little differently this year. Instead of the AFC and NFC teams, they had Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders picked the teams. Posluszny was on Team Sanders.
Team Rice won the game 22-21 after successfully converting for two-points following a touchdown with less than a minute on the clock.
Football remains America's favorite
A Harris poll has shown that NFL football is America's favorite sport for the 30th straight year.
When the first of these polls was taken back in 1985, the NFL edged Major League Baseball by one percentage point. Now the margin is 35-14.
Other sports getting support included college football (11 percent), auto racing (7 percent), the NBA (6 percent), the NHL (5 percent) and college basketball (3 percent).
