One of Tallahassee’s oldest businesses is calling it quits. The Rose Printing Company will soon shut its doors forever.
At its height, the full-service printer at the corner of Jackson Bluff Road and Mabry Street employed more than 200 people. It could produce virtually any kind of printed material on its multiple presses. But in recent months, printing orders have dried up and the company, founded in 1932, has been auctioning off its assets. One of the last truckload of presses drove off Thursday morning. A thirty-year veteran employee, who didn’t want to give her name, said that she and a handful of others had decided to, in her words, “go down with the ship.” They didn’t know exactly when that might be, but guessed it would be soon.
