It's the stingy and cranky businessman Ebenezer Scrooge who doesn't care one bit about Christmas, his clients or the people who work for him.  But Scrooge's life is turned upside down when he is visited by the doomed ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley who gives him some life altering news.  Scrooge soon learns his fate if he does not change his ways and in the true spirit of Christmas, he realizes just how joyful life can be and how time is too short.

TRIVIA

  • This production has the first depiction of the tormented spirits who are shown to Scrooge by Marley. They are visible to Scrooge, but not the film's audience.
  • This was the second time Seymour Hicks had portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge on film. The first was in Old Scrooge (1913), 22 years earlier.
  • Seymour Hicks first played Scrooge onstage in 1901 and it became his most popular role. Throughout his career he played it over a thousand times, often at fundraising benefits.
  • This film is the first live action production to include the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come's scene of Scrooge's shrouded corpse as in the book.
