Time is running out for about 100,000 SunPass customers to convert, for free, to new transponders.

Older, battery-operated transponders used for Florida toll roads and some bridges become obsolete with the New Year.

U.S. roads and bridges aren’t getting enough maintenance to keep drivers safe. That was the message the U.S. Transportation Secretary delivered in Jacksonville today. Secretary Anthony Foxx says the solution is a proposed spending bill called the Grow America Act.

A Florida lawmaker is warning the state’s highway guardrails may be unsafe. Hazard concerns and a lawsuit verdict have caused at least 13 other states to halt installation of a metal guardrail also used in Florida.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Highway Patrol says six people are dead after two chain-reaction crashes on Interstate 95 near Jacksonville.

Florida Department of Transportation

If you’ve got questions about a new toll road under construction on Jacksonville’s Westside, the Florida Department of Transportation is happy to answer them.

Interstate 95 inspires more than just four-letter words, it turns out.

Twenty five years ago, poet A.R. Ammons and his wife were driving home from a visit with family in South Miami. Somewhere north of Dade County -- on I-95 -- Ammons looked out his window and there it was: one of South Florida’s infamous mountains of trash.

The tiny Bradford County city of Hampton could be dissolved following a series of scandals, including a mayor accused of possession of Oxycodone with intent to sell.

Mayor Alvin Brown, marriage equality, and JEA are in the headlines today.

New traffic pattern for gameday Sunday, Mayor Brown trying to make events easier to launch, and emergency highway call boxes being removed from state highways are in the headlines today.

The State of Florida Department of Transportation plans to remove the state's 7,752 motorist aid call boxes from along interstate roads by the end of next January.

Boxes on I-10, which were among the 352 boxes along that route and I-95 in and around Jacksonville, have already been removed.

FDOT spokeswoman Gina Busscher called the boxes "antiquated technology" and said removing the boxes will save the state $1 million per year.

After more than three years of construction, the northbound lanes of State Road 9B from Phillips Highway (U.S. 1) to the I-295 East Beltway opened to travelers this morning and southbound lanes scheduled to open later tonight.

According to a release, the road will initially be opened as a four-lane limited access highway, similar to an interstate. The section opened today has the ability to expand to six lanes in the future with minimal disruption to the public.
