The Jacksonville Armada FC pro soccer team is ending its partnership with the Armada FC Youth Academy, which will now revert to its former name, Jacksonville FC.

The owner of the Jacksonville Armada wants to build a soccer stadium on the city’s Eastside, just north of the existing venues for baseball, football and hockey. 

Surrounding the city land where the soccer stadium is being proposed is a historically black community that has struggled with economic development, and residents there are looking at their potential new neighbor with a mix of skepticism and hope.

Hemming Park

Friends of Hemming Park, the organization in charge of running downtown Jacksonville's central park, recently stopped live music in during the park's weekday lunch hours due to budget constraints and feedback from City Council that city dollars should not be spent on programming or events. 

That announcement came on the heels of city government  concerns over a recent audit and a general reduction of funding for the group.

Jacksonville University is making new efforts to help Jacksonville's Arlington neighborhood, including a community development program and a Charter Day of Service. We speak with Jacksonville University President Tim Cost and Brigadier General (Retired) Michael Fleming, JU's Chief Government, Military & Community Relations Officer.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler has proposed sweeping new regulations governing broadband Internet service. The FCC will vote on the proposal later this month. The measure would guarantee what is known as net neutrality by banning broadband companies from discriminating between different content providers based on how much they can pay.
