After hiring a consultant to conduct tests, a local chemical company is suggesting that it’s not responsible for the foul odors that have been plaguing Murray Hill and surrounding neighborhoods, but residents who have experienced the smell are far from convinced.

A federal judge has thrown out a class action lawsuit filed by residents of Murray Hill against a local chemical company, but he’s giving them until Jan. 22 to fix the issues with the complaint and refile it.

The Jacksonville Environmental Quality Division (EQD) is investigating a chemical smell in Murray Hill, which in some cases is manifesting in a visible plume that makes it difficult to breathe and stings the skin. Some residents have said this issue has persisted for years.

Murray Hill, the 113-year-old neighborhood west of Riverside and Avondale, has attracted another investor.

Jacksonville-based apartment developer Vestcor Inc. paid $2.1 million Wednesday for 3.69 acres at 840 Edgewood Ave. S., anchored by a two-story, multitenant Bank of America building.

The owner of The Stout Snug in Murray Hill intends to open the 10/Six Grille in the historic Downtown Jacksonville Seminole Building, which is anchored by Sweet Pete’s candy store.
