Most pollsters dropped the ball on Election Day predicting Hillary Clinton would be elected President. Thursday on First Coast Connect we were joined by Dr. Michael Binder, Public Opinion Research Lab director at the University of North Florida to talk what pollsters got wrong and why. We also spoke with John Fails and Nathan Crocker from Bunker Labs of Jacksonville, which helps local veterans who want to start their own business. Jax Sports Council director Alan Verlander joined us to talk about the annual Light Boat Parade which has been rescheduled to the day before the Taxslayer Bowl.
Polling problems
Donald Trump spent the final weeks of the campaign telling his supporters to not believe the polls that showed him losing to Hillary Clinton. In the end, he was right. Binder talked about what was missed by pollsters particularly on the state level.

Bunker Labs
After years of operating within a regimented chain of command, many veterans come back to civilian life, ready to become their own bosses. Many would-be business owners are finding that the skills and experiences honed in the military are directly translating into start-up ideas. But making that transition can often be a challenge. Fails and Crocker spoke about the programs they offer veterans and an upcoming event to encourage more veterans to become their own boss.
Light Boat Parade
The 32nd annual Community First Jacksonville Light Boat Parade has been moved from Thanksgiving weekend to Dec. 30.
Some 200,000 are expected to line the North and South Banks of the St. Johns River to watch boats of all shapes and sizes decked out in holiday lights and costumed characters cruise the waterway. Verlander talked about why the date of the event was changed and how local boat owners can participate.
