6/21/2018: Riverkeeper Town Halls; Metcalf Institute; Art Attack; National Selfie Day

Thursday on First Coast Connect we were joined by St. John Riverkeeper Advocacy Director Shannon Blankenship and Outreach Director Kelly Patton to talk about their series of town meetings beginning Thursday dealing with the dangers of rising water levels in the river (01:05).  

Last week, host Melissa Ross attended the Science Immersion Workshop for Journalist at the Metcalf Institute in Rhode Island. Melissa was one of only 20 journalists invited this year to participate.  She talked about her experience with WJCT News Director Jessica Palombo (25:30).

Art Attack, our monthly look into the local arts scene featured Lee Hamby of the 5 and Dime Theatre, Shawana Brooks with the Jacksonville Makerspace and artists Ebony Payne and Madeline Peck Wagner. The topic was how the 1st Amendment affects the world of art (32:03).      

Thursday is National Selfie Day. We heard about an attempt to set a selfie record at Hemming Park with Jacksonville selfie queen Kerry Speckman, Director of Programming and Events with the Friends of Hemming Park Christina Parrish Stone and Tracy Rigdon of Eco Relics (46:00).
