WJCT Music Director and Electro Lounge host David Luckin stopped in to First Coast Connect to share some of his favorite records from the last quarter of 2013.
Foreverly — Bille Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones
Released in November, this covers album features Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and singer-songwriter Norah Jones playing the music of The Everly Brothers.
"This is some sweet harmony," Luckin said of the record.
Jones and Armstrong were interviewed about the album on Morning Edition shortly after it's release.
The Original Mono Recordings (Box Set) — Miles Davis
This reissue set released in November features nine of Davis' earliest albums collected in their original mono mixes: 'Round About Midnight, Miles Ahead, Milestones, Jazz Track, Porgy And Bess, Kind Of Blue, Sketches Of Spain, Someday My Prince Will Come and Miles And Monk At Newport.
Fever In The Road — The Bamboos
Australian soul/funk band The Bamboos released their sixth studio album Fever In The Road late last year.
"They just do kind of a blend of pop and soul, and it's nice music," Luckin said of the record.
The band features vocalist Kylie Auldist, who Luckin described as having a "sweet soul voice."
Moondance (Deluxe Edition) — Van Morrison
Released in late October, this deluxe edition of the 1969 Van Morrison classic includes four CDs with multiple takes of each song (17 of "Into The Mystic" alone) and a Blu-Ray Audio disk with remastered high resolution stereo and surround sound mixes of the original album.
"It has every take, all of the in studio chatter, the false starts, the making of the album," Luckin said.
Various Artists — Electro Lounge 10th Anniversary
Also technically released last month was the compilation CD featuring some of Luckin's favorite tracks from the first 10 years of Electro Lounge.
The album, released in collaboration with German record label ChinChin Records, was available first to WJCT supporters during the station's end-of-the-year radio pledge drive and will be formally released later this year.
Luckin said he is looking forward to starting the second decade of Electro Lounge in 2014.
