Downtown Jacksonville

Increased traffic is expected over the weekend as a result of an influx of activities in downtown Jacksonville.

The Stoneman Douglas High School Eaglesare one of the baseball teams participating in the Ben Watkins Tournament of Champions Friday, with all proceeds of their game's ticket sales going to a victims' relief fund. The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville is hosting the tournament's Friday games, with other games happening on Saturday at area schools. Here's the whole schedule for Friday:

  • Nease vs. Trinity Christian – 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • University Christian vs. Bolles – 2 p.m.-4.p.m.
  • TNXL vs. Stoneman Douglas – 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

Also on Friday, Gate River Run participants can pick up their packets at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Icemen Hockey team will play at the Veterans Memorial Arena at 7:30 p.m.
It is recommended that any patrons attending an event at the Baseball Grounds or Arena Friday evening should approach the sports complex from the west side of the city through downtown, according to facility managers SMG Jacksonville.

On Saturday, the Gate River Run will change traffic patterns, with closures to the Main Street and Hart Bridges throughout the day. The run is scheduled to start 8 a.m.

Later in the evening,  a Night of Symphonic Hip Hop featuring Wyclef Jean and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will take place at Daily’s Place Amphitheatre. The Jacksonville Iceman also will host another game at the Veterans Arena at 7:30 p.m.
